Like its predecessor, it did not sell well, even though it received positive reviews. Story changes were made when Electronic Arts (who owned the System Shock franchise rights at that time) signed on as publisher.
It was originally designed as a standalone title ( Junction Point) with no relation to the previous game.
The game was released on 11 th of August, 1999. System Shock 2 is the sequel to System Shock.
